Post from Caroline, Grace D, and Karissa

Hola Cincy!

Today everyone was combined as one big group and went on a hike.  We hiked through a huge primary forrest and on the beach.  We saw many animals including spider monkeys, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, lizards, scarlet macaws, water buffalo, even a baby fer-de-lance.  The fer-de-lance snake is one of the most poisonous snakes in all of Costa Rica!  With the help of our guides, Adonis and Miguel, Grace Dayton, Caroline and other brave students were able to touch the snake.  After that, we went for a hike on the beach.  We walked past many turtle nests and were greeted (and soaked) by a 30 ft wave!  Once we got back to the lodge, Jackie prepared a grilled cheese and pasta lunch.  Muy Deliciosio!  After lunch everyone hung out and got dressed up for Ash Wednesday mass at the lodge.  A Costa Rican priest is going to come to the lodge for the mass!  We will receive ashes.  Following the service, everyone will change into their UC/XU gear and get pumped up for the crosstown shootout.  Mama Suz and Uncle Randy set up a makeshift basketball hoop so we can have our own game.  For dinner we are having fresh fish and after dinner we are going to relax in the hammocks a little more and then head to our cabins for a good nights sleep.  Adios Cincy!  Stay Warm!

XOXO,

Caroline, Grace D, and Karissa

  5. Caroline,
Oh my gosh! Touching poisonous snakes, 30-ft waves, water buffalo? Sounds like an Indiana Jones movie! Please be careful -- brave, but careful! So happy that you guys are experiencing such unique things. Be glad you are missing the weather here this week -- it's all frozen yuck with icy winds on top.
Love you and can't wait to see you next Monday!

  6. Hey Suz!!!!!!!
Well first off, we are really jealous that you are in Costa Rica rn (especially Jack and I because we know how much fun it is there) because it is freezing here. Jack just got ANOTHER snow day, so he will only have a one day week... cray. Grace and I are hoping to get one too because tomorrow is supposed to be like -15 degrees outside. I know you are probably really warm and toasty. The beach hike sounds like it was a lot of fun... did anyone eat termites?? We loved seeing the pictures of you... I personally loved the one of you and Adonis. Well, we miss you bunches and can't wait till you get home!!! Enjoy the warm weather for as long as you, though. Love you soo much!!!!!!
    Love,
Sarah (me), Jack, Grace, and John

  11. Hi Vincent and SMS buddies!
Boy, does it look like fun there! Except for the part about the cockroach and the baby fer-de-lance. It has been snowing a TON here and we will be on our THIRD snow day in a row tomorrow. The girls have shoveled the driveway twice already. Other than being snowed-in essentially, nothing much else is happening around here. So enjoy the sun, water, wind, food, animals, and friends and we'll see you in 5 days!!
    Love, Mom

  21. Ryan,
Just wanted to let you know that we missed you this weekend at Philips Bday celebration. I have been following your groups blog and it looks like you all are having a blast. I feel it is safe to say that it is warmer where you are. Cincy is in a deep freeze as I'm sure your parents have told you. You really aren't missing out on much schooling with holiday and snow days. Just wanted to say Hi and to let you know you and your entire group are in my thoughts and prayers. Be safe and continue to have a great time. By the way I really liked your horse. Can't wait to see more pictures,
    Love
    Aunt Pammy

  22. Hi. Chris!! Another day in the deep freeze. Burrrrr!!! Emily and I are in Wilmington now and she is schooling Max for the show tomorrow. At least the place is heated. It is a high temp of 5 today. I will be at her horse show tomorrow and Saturday. I'll let you know how she does. Your pictures are great! I especially like the one of you in the waterfall. Keep having fun. I am jealous of the meals you are getting there. I made cheese quesadillas for Em and I last night for Ash Wednesday. They were good but I'm sure not as good as the ones you ate there. I'm glad you had fish for dinner because I know how much you enjoy that. I'm also happy to hear you had mass and got ashes. Emily and I stopped into St. Mary yesterday and received our ashes. I really can't believe Lent is here already!! We are missing you lots and can't wait to see you soon. Love you!! Mom

  24. Hi Mommy and Ben. It's Megan. Eric and I are at home and taking a break from doing the school lessons that Daddy printed from the internet and made us do because of all the snow days. He says that if we get less than 98% then we have to shovel the back lawn.

Eric wants me to tell you that he found where you hid your wallet. He just showed me it. How come you don't have any money in it? Why is Eric laughing? Why is Eric leaving to go to GameStop to buy a bunch of new games? These are all good questions Ben. All good questions.

    Post-out!
